What are consultations for?
- Consultations are mandatory for larger body work.
- Consultations are free.
- Please be prepared with a clear idea of what you want before coming in. Make sure you have done your research. Common designs such as snakes, flowers, dragons, koi, or skulls do not require much research.
- Email any reference images (max.3) before the consultation. I will not copy any tattoo artist’s work. Photos can show composition of other tattoos you like. Most Japanese tattoos are inspired by woodblock prints. These can be very helpful with more intricate designs like warriors or mythological creatures or Buddhist deities.
- During this process we will discuss your ideas, placement (more in depth), pricing, and availability.
- If you have questions that pertain to subject matter (example: mythology, folklore or Buddhism), feel free to ask before the consult.
- If you live 5 hours or more away, I can sometimes accommodate with an online consultation.
How much are deposits?
During the consultation, after we have agreed on the subject matter and dates for appointments, a deposit will be required to hold your appointment(S)
$100-for smaller one-shot tattoos
$200-for arm sleeves
$300- for leg “sleeve”
$400 for back pieces
Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable but do come off the price of your last tattoo session.
How to lose your deposit:
- Excessive rescheduling (can also lead to losing your ability to use my online booking system)
- Lateness that exceeds 30 mins
- No-show
- Complete change of design without proper notice.
- Showing up with a sunburn in the area you are having tattooed.
What is Jenn's availability?
My scheduled workdays are Wednesday to Saturday between 11 am and 6pm. New works are started within 1-3 months after the consultation takes place. Please be advised that larger work always requires multiple sessions. Sessions will be 3-6 hours (your choice) until the tattoo is finished. It is strongly recommended that you can commit to a monthly appointment with a limit of 3 hours. This will allow your tattoo to be finished in a timely manner. Please keep in mind healing time when booking, regarding any vacations where sun and swimming are available. It takes 10-14 days to be healed and the tattoo could burn from the sun or get infections if swimming. Showers are fine.
Cancellations
72 hours’ notice is required for canceled appointments to allow time to book someone else in. cancellations without 72 hours’ notice will run the risk losing your deposit and a new on will be required.
*This rule also applies to lateness. If you are going to be late, please make sure to text me with your eta so that you don’t lose your deposit. (Phone number is at the end of my email replies.)
20 mins applies to the consultations as well. It’s like a first date. Please try to be on time, these appointments are time sensitive.
Drawings
Drawings, when needed will be ready the day of the appointment (some portions of the drawing, such as background, are often drawn on by hand for best fit). Drawings will not be emailed or texted. It’s difficult to clearly explain how the image will fit, etc. and usually causes added stress to both parties. Communicating in person the day of the appointment is always optimal and allows me the focus on the project and client to give the attention they deserve. I take great care during a consultation to make notes and tracing of the body part(s) so that I come up with a design you will like. Minor adjustments to the design can be made before we begin tattooing. If, however you change your mind or want to add something please let me know as soon as possible before the tattoo appointment so that I have time to make changes. A total change in design or subject matter on short notice may require a new deposit to cover the added drawing time. Also keep in mind if you change the design there will be a possibility of having to reschedule at a later date to allow time for a new drawing. The goal is to come up with a design that we will both be excited about.
How much for a tattoo?
Shop hourly rate is 200 per hour.
I can only price works through email for my pre-drawn designs. These images can be found in the highlight reels in my Instagram bio. These are not usually charged hourly. Priced according to size placement and difficulty.
Prices for larger body work will never be given over email, text etc. During the in-person consultation, I can give a rough estimate of how much time the tattoo will require. Tattoos are individual and never the same. Some take longer than others depending on size, placement, and design intricacy. Also, the client’s tolerance for the pain plays a factor.
For large body work, multiple sessions are required. These sessions will last 3-6 hours per session. Please keep in mind the commitment of large works. They take a lot of time to design and tattoo. So be sure in your choices when we meet for a consultation and before you leave a deposit. If I don’t feel comfortable with design choices after our first consultation, I will be honest and suggest a cooling period for clarity, and for you to do more research.
What forms of payment are accepted?
Cash. Always. E-Transfer may be used for the deposit.
Can I bring a guest?
Currently I am not allowing guests for large body work or consultations. If your tattoo is smaller, 1-2 hours, you may bring a guest.
What should I do to prepare for the tattoo?
Sleep well the night before.
Wash and gently exfoliate the area you wish to get tattooed the day of your appointment. Exfoliating with a loofa or Japanese towel can help prevent ingrown hairs when they start to grow back. Do not use lotion prior to your appointment. Do not shave the area you are getting tattooed. This can create shaving rash or cuts that will irritate the skin. It’s my part of my job to do this for you.
Wear appropriate clothing. Tattooing can get messy, and we need to be able to work in the area without having to avoid tight fitting clothing. Tank tops are great for sleeve work. Wide leg shorts for legs. House coats can be warn backwards for easy access to back pieces and comfy! Do not wear white.
Eat a large meal prior and bring snacks and drinks for larger sessions.
Be on time!
Aftercare
Leave bandage on for 4-6 hours (overnight if done later in the day)
Remove bandage and wash tattoo with unscented dove soap. With a clean towel pat dry.
After three days, use Lubriderm unscented lotion. This will alleviate itchiness. Drink water.
No swimming (10 days)
No sun (14 days)
No gym or sports for (7 days) this pertains to using gym equipment and mats to avoid staph infections. Running is fine. Always make sure to wash your fresh tattoo after excessive sweating.
Do not pick at the scabs. Scabs being torn off prematurely will affect the healing process.
If this tattoo is one of your first, please stick to the aftercare products mentioned. Do not use anything else to heal your tattoo. If you keep it clean, you shouldn’t have any issues your body will heal itself. Other products could result in a harder heal or unnecessarily expensive. Any healing issues you may be concerned about should be photographed and sent to me. 99% of the time, healing issues clear up on their own and caused by misuse of aftercare products or lack of cleanliness on the client’s part. Infection rates are very slim for tattoos.
Touch ups must be done within 3 months(free) of having your tattoo finished. Any later could result in additional charges. This includes any darkening ore color changes.
